MQM likely to rejoin cabinet

KARACHI: After almost two months of separation from the government, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) is likely to rejoin the cabinet on both provincial and federal levels, Express 24/7 reported on Sunday.
According to sources, in the wake of recent killing spree in Karachi, the MQM is likely to make an announcement in this regard on Monday.
The MQM had parted ways with the government over restoration of commissionerate system in Sindh, and controversial elections in Azad Kashmir.
The party has quit the ruling coalition at least three times now, though the most recent spat with the ruling party appeared to be the most severe and certainly the longest that the MQM has spent on the opposition benches since the February 2008 elections.
However, the recent meetings between the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the MQM, along with the restoration of 2001 Local Bodies system, addressed some of the reservations of MQM.
Earlier, the MQM also decided to rejoin the treasury benches at both the national and provincial levels after Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani called MQM chief Altaf Hussain to invite the party back into the ruling coalition.
