DERA ALLAHYAR: A bomb ripped through a roadside restaurant in Dera Allah Yar, leaving 14 people dead and injuring 22 on Sunday, the day on which the nation was celebrating its 65th Independence Day.
Police said that a remote controlled device was used to detonate the bomb at a roadside hotel, killing three people on the spot while the rest of the casualties occurred due to the collapse of the two-storey building of the restaurant. Local people and Edhi volunteers pulled out 11 bodies and 22 injured from the derbies.
The killed were identified as Soomar Khan Soomro, Rasool Bux Umerani, Abdul Qudus Jarwar, Illahi Bux, Arshad Ali, Aijaz Ali, Nihal Khan, Sanaullah, Parvaiz Ahmed, Nisar Ahmed, Kakher Uddin, Khalid Hussain, Meran Shah while the identity of one could not ascertained.
All the injured were shifted to the Jaffarabad District Headquarter Hospital and Jacobabad Civil Hospital. Later, eight injured were referred to Larkana Teaching Hospital due to their critical condition.
SSP Jaffarabad Javed Hussain told our sources that an inquiry team comprising four DSPs would submit a report on the bombing within the next three days. No group or individual has so far claimed responsibility for the blast. District police chief Javed Gharshin said that 14 people had been killed and 16 others wounded.
Gharshin said four suspects had been arrested in connection with the bombing. Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have strongly condemned the bomb blast at a restaurant in Dera Allahyar.
They expressed their shock and grief over the loss of precious human lives in the tragic blast. The president reiterated the government’s resolve to continue to fight terrorism and militancy till the complete elimination of this menace.
He also conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the departed souls. Prime Minister Gilani said the killing of innocent people in this terrorist act during the holy month of Ramazan shows that the terrorists have no faith and religion and do not value human lives.
