MIRPUR: The election campaign for the 41-seat Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly would end 32 hours before the beginning of polling, it was officially declared.
The spokesman of AJK Election Commission said that there would be a complete ban on holding any sort of public meeting or procession by any political or independent candidate soon after the end of the election campaign.
June 24 would be the last day for the election campaign in line with the code of conduct and the elections schedule, the spokesman said, adding, after the dead line, no candidate would be allowed to hold any sort of corner or public meeting or procession.
The AJK EC spokesman said all arrangements for the elections had been completed for June 26 elections.
The polling material had reached the concerned districts while the stipulated polling allowance for the concerned polling staff had also been provided to the concerned Returning Officers, he said.
The spokesman said the concerned authorities had been directed to ensure polling in absolutely free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.
"The Chief election Commissioner AJK might initiate disciplinary action, under the powers, conferred to him under the AJK election ordinance 1970, against any officer/government employee found negligent or irresponsible during the elections," the spokesman warned.
The spokesman declared that in case of any disturbance or turmoil on the part of any candidate or his/her supporter, the concerned candidate might be declared disqualified from contesting the elections. (APP)
