New crisis involving Nab’s Irfan Qadir emerges

ISLAMABAD: A new crisis involving the dismissal and restoration of Prosecutor General of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Irfan Qadir, emerged after Supreme Court (SC) issued orders to remove him from his office, Geo News reported Monday.

The apex court ordered the sacking of the Prosecutor General in Haris Steel case; however, talking to Geo News, Irfan Qadir said, ‘I was legally appointed by President Asif Ali Zardari and still I am the Nab’s Prosecutor General.’

Irfan Qadir called a meeting of law officers at his office this morning and issued them high-level directives to keep up their work.

Qadir said he was appointed by President Zardari and only he could ask him (Qadir) to quit his office.

Meantime, the Presidential House said the apex court ruling is quite explicit and unequivocal.

Presidential spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the court has expressly directed Irfan Qadir to leave his charge and there is no truth in reports regarding directives from the president giving him go-ahead to continue his work.
