Gilani urges nation to struggle unitedly for its goals in new year

ISLAMABAD, Jan 01 (APP): Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani urged the nation to renew pledge to struggle unitedly for the welfare of people, security of the country and stability and promotion of democracy.In a message on new year, the Prime Minister congratulated the nation on the auspicious occasion and prayed to Allah to save the nation from natural disasters and keep it on the path of progress and prosperity in the new year.He said nations face good and bad times and wisdom demands that humans should devise their future strategy in the light of their past experiences.“This is the path which can give way to the future of success and achievement,” he added.
The Prime Minister said last year was very challenging and difficult for the country as it faced the worst floods of its history and tackled the problem of terrorism and extremism.
This matter is very encouraging and appreciable that the nation overcame these critical phases with confidence and a sense of conviction, he added.
The Prime Minister said the floods caused widespread damage and the nation has to bear irreparable damage in lives and property.
The government took all possible steps for the timely and effective assistance of the flood affectees and the international community generously extended help in the effort, for which Pakistani government is thankful, he added.
He recalled that people, government and non-governmental organizations, philanthropists and welfare organizations with a large heart assisted their brothers in distress and once again proved that in this hour of trial the whole nation is united.
The courageous and patriotic people of Pakistan and the law enforcing agencies, like always, countered terrorism and extremism, he said adding the day is not far off when terrorists will be completely eliminated from the country.
The Prime Minister said the government continued its journey for the welfare of people, prosperity of nation and for the country’s security and sovereignty.
“With belief in reconciliation, we continued to perform our national duty with hard work, patriotism and responsibility for strengthening and promotion of democracy,” he said adding as a result of the government efforts the state institutions became strong and now they are playing their role by remaining in the constitutional ambit.
Gilani acknowledged that undoubtedly the difficult international economic conditions and circumstances badly affected the country’s economy as a result of which people are facing problems of price hike, unemployment and loadshedding.
He said the government is fully aware of the situation and utilizing all of its resources to find a permanent solution of issues.
The Prime Minister sought cooperation and trust of the people to get out of the difficulties.
He expressed his confidence that with united efforts a prosperous and invincible welfare state will be created which will be mirror image of the dreams of Poet of the East Allama Iqbal, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Quaid-e-Awam Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed.
